Getting the new IA right

For students in their first year of the IB Diploma taking one or more of the Sciences, they will know the IA (Internal Assessment) has changed. Instead of producing a number of pieces of work, students now only need to produce one. So, great care and attention needs to be given in order to get a good grade. Essentially there is only ‘one shot’ at getting it right. Some of OSC’s bloggers, who are all experienced IB teachers, authors and examiners have ...

Changes to DP Biology (III) Internal assessment

There have been some significant changes to the internal assessment portion of the  Group 4 Diploma subjects, and they include the following: The  weighting of experimental work to the overall grade has been reduced to 20% from 24% (I know this is stating the obvious, but it is worth emphasising that the syllabus content has now increased in weighting to 80%). Element 114 could be particularly interesting as it is found in group 4 - could we have a super dense ...

An Overview of Internal Assessment (IA)

Today's posting will cover an overview of IA: IA counts towards 25% of the final Chemistry grade. HL students need to carry out a minimum of 60 hours of lab work, SL students need to carry out a minimum of 40 hours. There is a Group 4 project that counts towards 10 hours of lab time (more on this is later postings). Teachers assess the students on five skll areas: Design (D) Data Collection and Processing (DCP) Conclusion and Evaluation (CEv) Manipulative Skills (MS) ...
