It is the Little Things – That Make the Difference!

Just a small post to brighten up those summer months – as there is some great design and technology happening out there. One of the most important things I believe to get across to students when you are teaching them in Design and Technology is that there is no need to go to complexity. Yes that Mies van de Rohe quotation of “less is more” still stands out today. Below are some quick links to recent simple but innovative designs that can show students that simplicity can lead to excellent and amazing innovations :-

Why has no one thought of this before  – simply the umbrella that stands rather than falling over or needing one of those horrible umbrella stands? – http://www.yankodesign.com/2014/02/21/umbrella-that-stands/

How about this a simple way to make any railings or scaffolding a perfect place to sit – low technology wonderful idea! – http://weburbanist.com/2014/02/24/pop-up-parks-brackets-turn-scaffolding-into-furniture/

Why do objects only serve one purpose? How about the door knob that act as places to organise and hang things – so simple! – http://www.yankodesign.com/2014/03/20/double-door-knob-use/

And finally don’t doors get in the way too much when you open them – so why not redesign them? – http://weburbanist.com/2014/02/20/touch-to-open-kinetic-doors-unfold-like-life-sized-origami/
